About

Hello!

I’m a professional piano accompanist, currently headed back to school to officially acquire a Bachelors of Music (and give my technique and repertoire a much-needed kick in the pants).

It’s possible I’ll talk about music here, but, honestly, it’s my day job, and I have quite a bit of opportunity to think about and discuss music-related matters in my normal routines of daily living.  What I have less opportunity to think and write about are some other longstanding interests. I’ve created this blog mainly to give myself a space to engage those.  So rather than an analysis of a Bach fugue, you’ll be more likely to find posts about classical stoicism, virtue ethics, communitarianism, the Taubman approach to keyboard technique, and charity evaluation. (Ok, I guess Taubman does count as “music-related”). I’ve also got more than a passing interest in SF and poetry, and keep an informal curated list of literature from both genres that might cross over well to a general audience.

Re:good poetry, the title and tagline of this blog are a nod to Matthew Arnold’s “The Scholar-Gipsy.”
